Belray Apartments

Rehabilitation of Supportive SRO Housing

IN PROGRESS

Located in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, Belray Apartments was originally designed in the 1920s with an ornate glazed-brick facade and archways topped with green terracotta roof detailing. The four-story brick building was acquired by Mercy Housing in 1999 and transformed into a supportive housing complex for single adults experiencing homelessness. Rehabilitation of the existing 70-unit SRO includes reconfiguring resident and employee services on the ground floor, expanding unit size by reducing the unit count to 51, and upgrades to MEP, finishes, accessibility, and energy performance. The first floor of the building will offer a large community kitchen, art therapy, community room, bike storage, and laundry facilities. A 4-story addition adjacent to the existing building will provide 35- SRO units, community spaces, and employee facilities.
