Sisters in Cinema
Adaptive Reuse Cultural Center
COMPLETED IN 2024
Sisters in Cinema was founded in 1997 and is a Chicago-based non-profit with an inclusive mission to entertain, educate, develop and celebrate Black girls and women media-makers and future generations of storytellers and their audiences. In 2017 Sisters in Cinema was awarded a NOF grant to develop the Sisters in Cinema Media Arts Center.
The project involves the gut rehab of an existing single-story masonry building in South Shore that transforms the space into a cinema with auxiliary community spaces for a learning center, gathering space, and co-working space for women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming media makers.
